Book club : Panel discussion on Book "The Other Side of Diplomacy"

On 26th April 2025, the EASA Book Club held a special reading and panel discussion at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, focused on The Other Side of Diplomacy, edited by Mrs. Jayshree Tripathi.

The panel included Dr. Preeti Singh, Dr. Asiya Hamid Rao, Dr. Shreedevi Nair Pal, Mrs. Kusum Tayal, Ambassador (Retd.) Smita Purushottam, and Mrs. Jayshree Tripathi, who also moderated the discussion.

The speakers read selected passages from the book and shared personal stories that gave a deep and moving insight into the lives of Indian diplomatic spouses and families. Their experiences ranged from big cities to conflict zones, highlighting challenges like career compromises, emotional strain, and the strength it takes to live a life that’s always on the move.

The discussion was full of variety—light-hearted moments like finding meat by befriending a butcher in Iraq, to emotional experiences like attending Truth and Reconciliation Court sessions in South Africa. There were also memorable stories of meeting world leaders like Nelson Mandela and engaging in cultural conversations in Vienna’s elite music circles. Each story revealed the lesser-known side of diplomatic life, full of courage, adaptability, and quiet strength.

The event ended on a warm note, with EASA President Mrs. Dolly Misri thanking the speakers and presenting them, along with the editor, tokens of appreciation.

Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
